Sue Sylvester: still badass, I'm glad she's back to her Chaotic Evil self. I feel like a lot of the problems season 2 had came about because they couldn't decide if these characters were caricatures or not, so Sue would just wildly vacillate between sympathetic and cardboard. I personally like the show better as a satire/farce.
Will Schuester: still pure evil, still incapable of coming up with an idea that has a single positive consequence.
Rachel: Rachel has the same problem as Sue; she's obviously MEANT to be one-dimensional, but she keeps getting writing that is obviously MEANT to be sympathetic but is not because of every other character on the show. In the opener, she has actual good writing (still in character!) that makes her a human without making her awful.
Kurt: Legally~! Basically Kurt can do no wrong. You know this.
Finn: You are lost and helpless because the writers have completely abandoned your original motivation for joining Glee (getting out of Lima). I'm glad to see you being played as unsympathetic ("ohhh blaine is here he's prettier and a better singer than me so I'm going to be mean to him") while still, like Rachel, being true to your character (spiteful and petty).
Mercedes/Artie/Tina/Other Asian/Brittany: One-note characters still. *shrug* Again, I'm not really opposed to this. There do have to be tiers.
Santanna/Quinn: Seem to be set up for an even more obvious parallel than before. Santanna has everything Quinn had, and Quinn is in Santanna's position as wrong-side-of-the-tracks bad girl. They're also both incredibly poorly suited for their current roles. Interesting to see where this will go!
